It's a Birthday Kind of Valentine's Day

I LOVE Valentine's Day. Growing up, I looked forward to it every year. I loved making little valentines for my classmates, loved the classroom Valentine's parties, and I ESPECIALLY loved coming home to a special dinner, watching my dad bring my mom roses and a gift, and Carly (my sister) and I always getting really good gifts from him ourselves. One year we both got ipods. Such a good day. I would find out a little later in life how good this day really is. It is the day the love of my life was born.

When Andrew and I first started dating and February rolled around, I told him that I was "just one of those girls that doesn't care about Valentine's day". Ridiculous, I know. I just didn't know how celebrating his birthday AND Valentine's Day on the same day would work. I didn't want Andrew to feel obligated to do something special for me on HIS day. He, like the wonderful man he his, didn't listen and got me gifts anyway. And the next year, he got me a Tiffany & Co. necklace, even though he was still under the impression that I didn't like Valentine's Day. Finally, the next year, I told him my true feelings about the holiday. And since then, I've decided to fully embrace both aspects of the day. How wonderful is it that I get to celebrate my husband AND the love we have on the same day?!

So in the spirit of BOTH of those things today...

To my husband and best friend on your birthday,

I love how cheerful you are in the mornings. Every. Single. Morning. I love how supportive of me you are, and how supportive you've been of my job and my crazy, hectic schedule. I love how when I don't want to get out of bed in the mornings to get ready for work, and I tell you that I will if you rub my back for a little bit, you actually do. I love how patient you are with me. Even when I'm clamouring around the kitchen like a mad woman looking for the exact pan that I want to use. I love how you will DVR my shows for me. And then watch them with me. I love that you love taking pictures and documenting our lives. I love how excited you get about the little things. Like budgeting and our at-home office. I love how well you take care of me when I'm sick. Like buying a $20 box of alka seltzer for me in St. Lucia. I love how obsessed with cats you are (even though I still get a little creeped out when you email me random pictures of cats from Craigslist). I love how after two seconds in your arms, I feel better. I love how you pick me up from work when I have to work late. I love how you're the first one to suggest we make an ice cream run. I love how easy going you are. I love that you talk in your sleep. I love the way you dance. I love how ridiculously obsessed you are with tech-y things. I love how driven you are. I love how you make me laugh. I love that we get to spend the rest of our lives together, making an endless amount of memories.

I love most of all that this day celebrates YOU. Without you, I don't know where I would be- I'm sure nowhere near as perfect as here.

I can not wait until I am sitting accross from you at Adour, champagne in hand, and staring into your eyes. Five days!

I love you forever and always.

Love,
your wife, Erin
